Maybe I like Dalek because he does designs for skateboards and I’m secretly 14 mentally, maybe it’s because he went to high school in Japan and just maybe its because he slightly looks like Gary Oldman. But more than likely I like the likes of Dalek because his illustrations and photography are second to none, proving once and for all that you can’t fake influence and cool and he has it by the bucketload, from his aforementioned time in Japan, to being a graffiti urchin on the mean streets of the world. I may also be a bit in love with his perfectly working, not shit for once, flash site.

Flicking through the local rag this week, amongst the stories of new bypasses and school fetes, I saw a familiar face. The article was about the recent success of talented photographer and fellow LUSAD graduate Ali Lomas, and more importantly her contribution to the National Portrait Gallery as part of the prestigious Taylor Wessing Photography Portrait Prize. Her work was selected from over 6,300 entries, both student and professional, and in my opinion deserves the top spot. If you are in London from November 5th to February 14th check it out.

Hederus Lookbook SS 2010

I had the pleasure of chatting to Julia Hederus a while back to discuss some packaging ideas for her K-Swiss range. Since then she has gone from strength to strength and realeased some interesting stuff. Her latest offering is the Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook titled “Del Ray Ghosts”. She predicts that the new decade will see specter inspired clothing, good news for all of us whose skin tone is only influenced by the glare from their Mac. Not seen the finished article yet but if her previous work is anything to go by Del Ray Ghosts will be a good look.
